Majavan tila opening with Pyöräpaja ry

Since the cooperative was founded in June, we have been busy setting up our space in Kauppalantie 22, which is now in active use. Come visit us and be part of it!
Helsingin pyöräpaja
Helsingin pyöräpaja or Helsinki Bike Kitchen (Pyöräpaja ry) is a free DIY space where everyone can fix their own bike. Help, tools and parts are provided for free thanks to the volunteers keeping it open. It’s part of a network of bike workshops across Finland.
Pyöräpaja has moved to Kauppalantie 22 in August and is now running regular opening hours again. It was previously in Pasila (Rahakamarinkatu 1/Pasilan puistotie) but the rental with Heka came to an end.
Majavan tila osk is an independent organisation but we’re very happy to have Pyöräpaja as our first and main tenant (or anchor tenant). Most of our members are involved in Pyöräpaja as well. Pyöräpaja sets the tone for the community space we hope to be.
Grand opening
The first opening event will be on 2024-10-19 as part of the Alakaupunki festival. Check it out! You’re welcome to join.
Update: Pyöräpaja has announced their program for the opening event, at 14:00-21:00:
- Fixing bikes and other regular Paja activities
- Live DJ artists including DJ Sähköpaimen, DJ Guttula and DJ Vili Holiday
- Screen printing at 18:00: bring your own T-shirts/bags/fabrics!
Cooperative updates
After some bureaucratic complications at PRH, our cooperative is not fully operational yet, but we expect it will be very soon is now officially registered, as of October 17. We have updated our bylaws with some minor clarifications.
More than half of our 260 m² space is still available. You can rent part of it as from any other landlord, or you can join as member of the cooperative and propose your own projects to run in the space which is not rented yet. We’re currently considering various requests for storage spaces (either locked areas or open shelving), so if you have some ideas contact us as soon as possible.
