Membership benefits for 2026
We are happy to announce the official benefits you can get in 2026 by joining us as member of the cooperative. They have been approved by the board of directors (hallitus) of Majavan tila osk on 2025-11-13.
Benefits for participant members
The benefits for a participant member (osallistujajäsen) in 2026 include:
- access to the space during public opening hours (if any) and usage of designated shared areas;
- storage of up to 0,5 m³ of objects in a space designated for members storage;
- usage of the mailbox to receive snail mail and fetch it self-service (by request).
Access
Concretely, access means the ability to use our spaces for purposes compatible with the cooperative’s purposes, on equal terms with every other member of the cooperative, while respecting the uses by other participants in the spaces (such as people and associations who rented part of our space).
We support the open wireless movement
This is a quick note that for our premises we provide open and free internet access through an open wifi hotspot which joins the openwireless.org movement.
Usage considerations
Currently the network is backed by a basic network connection provided by our building (taloyhtiönetti) which offers a 10 Mbps symmetric speed. Clearly this is very little!
Be considerate of usage by others around you. Don’t engage in heavy usage such as streaming a movie while others are trying to use the network for immediate needs such as email, messaging or watching an instructional video on how to repair their bike. When alone, the speed is generally sufficient for audio/video calls with most software we’ve tried.
We (try to) use renewable electricity only
This is a quick note that for our premises we purchase electricity through a so-called renewable energy contract. One of the purposes of Majavan tila osk is to reduce the carbon intensity of our communities’ activities in order to ever so slightly reduce the devastating effects of the ongoing climate crisis.
Is this just greenwashing?
We use a so-called “100 % renewable” electricity contract from Helen, mostly because Helsinki’s own energy company is the most likely to have an impact (whether negative or positive) on the communities our cooperative serves.
